Mind of the Artist, Part XVIII: Tara Hamilton

June 29, 2017

We proudly present: CHAL Mind of the Artist, Part XVIII: Tara Hamilton. Tara's paintings represent the the beauty that can be found in our everyday surroundings, and remind us of what it means to truly see with a creative eye. Enjoy getting to know our June Artist and her paintings- they are a true delight!

Art has been a part of my life since childhood.  When I was bored, my Grandmother would pull out pencil and paper and tell me to draw something.  Although several members of my family are artists, I was never able to do more than take a class once in a while during my working life. I was born in DC, educated here, and started my career here working in local government and the transportation public sector.

When I discovered the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), an avenue was opened to a creative life. While I was working, I took classes at CHAW from Gina Clapp, a watercolorist. Since retiring, I’ve joined Ellen Cornett’s Advanced watercolor and pastel class where I find encouragement that keeps me painting.

Becoming a member of The Capitol Hill Arts League has further provided me an opportunity to display my art in juried shows. Likewise, my membership in the Potomac Valley Watercolorists and the Muddy Creek Artists Guild provide venues for my art.

I work entirely in watercolor, often an unforgiving medium, but one that brings great surprises and discoveries.  Representational art is what interests me and I find my subjects in life during a walk around Capitol Hill or on a trip abroad.

My fascination is with dark and light and how to recreate what nature does so effortlessly.
